Conestoga College Students at Guelph Campuses Vote in Favour of a Guelph Transit U-Pass

GUELPH, ON (November 20, 2024) – Conestoga Students Inc. (CSI) is excited to announce Conestoga College students have voted in favour of a Guelph Transit Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass) for the Fall 2025 term.

The Guelph Transit U-Pass Referendum took place from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1 for Conestoga College students at Guelph campuses. Of the students attending Guelph and Riverside Glen campuses who voted, 94 per cent voted in favour of the U-Pass program.

The U-Pass program provides unlimited rides on Guelph Transit at an affordable price. Implemented through an ancillary fee on students' invoices, students will pay a total of $162 per term, providing savings of approximately $126 per term for transit riders.

“We are proud to support students and work alongside Guelph Transit to provide affordable transit solutions to Conestoga students in the Guelph community,” said Nelson Chukwuma, president of Conestoga Students Inc. “A U-Pass allows students to travel throughout Guelph, whether heading to campus, work, or elsewhere in the city. The program eases some of the daily stresses of students’ lives.”

“Guelph Transit is excited that Conestoga College students have voted in favour of implementing a U-Pass,” said Robin Gerus, general manager of Guelph Transit. “We believe the pass will enable students to navigate our city conveniently and cost-effectively. We look forward to welcoming more Conestoga students onto Guelph Transit buses next year.” ?

The program will start September 1, 2025. The referendum, supported by Guelph Transit and Conestoga College, is part of the collective and continuing efforts to secure affordable transit options for students.
