As your student association, our mandate is to ensure that our services are affordable, accessible, and meet student needs.
Over the last few months, we have been in the process of renegotiating certain aspects of the College International Health Insurance Plan (CIHIP) to ensure the coverage was optimized to support our international student community. Due to that fact, a placeholder fee was included in your invoice. To ensure the invoice aligned with Ministry guidelines, the placeholder is the maximum amount that you could be charged for your CIHIP coverage.
The final fee and level of coverage could shift and invoices will then be adjusted to reflect any changes. You will receive communications letting you know those determinations, as well as the coverage you will receive for the set price point in the next few weeks. Please note that CIHIP is a mandatory fee to ensure international students have access to basic healthcare coverage while studying in Ontario.
We understand that your finances are a major part of your student experience and apologize for being unable to communicate this information to you prior to invoices being sent out earlier this week. We are doing our best to resolve this situation and get a concrete CIHIP price onto invoices as soon as possible.
