CSI offers two one-day leadership conferences each academic year. These annual conferences help students develop their leadership style and the soft skills employers most often look for. You can expect to hear inspiring keynotes from professional speakers, participate in interactive workshops, and connect with your peers.
Both of the CSI leadership conferences are held in a professional, modern environment at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Kitchener. The venue has parking, is easily accessible by transit, and a shuttle is also provided. At the conference you will receive a swag bag, meals and snacks, and have the chance to win great prizes. You will also receive a CSI leadership certificate and earn credit on the Co-Curricular Record (CCR).
This winter’s conference, Connect, Engage, Together is focused on the theme of community. We’ll be focusing on diversity, group development, inclusion, collaboration, creating change, and more!
All keynotes and sessions by our guest speakers will relate to the theme of self, through the Student Leadership Competencies (SLCs). Competencies are knowledge, values, abilities, and behaviours that help an individual contribute to or successfully engage in a role or task. There are 60 SLCs, and developing these competencies is beneficial to you both as a student and in your future career. The SLCs are categorized into eight categories, as follows:
- Learning and Reasoning
- Self-Awareness and Development
- Interpersonal Interaction
- Group Dynamics
- Civic Responsibility
- Strategic Planning
- Personal Behaviour
The specific competencies that each guest speaker will be focusing on in each session will be outlined in the conference program. This is especially important for the concurrent sessions, where you will have to decide which session is most relevant to you.
