CSI is welcoming trans advocate Kenny Ethan Jones to talk about body image, body politics, and what inclusivity really means.

Kenny engages in open and respectful conversations on menstruation, body politics, mental health, and intimacy. Kenny is well known for being the first trans man to be featured in an advertising campaign for a period product, 2018’s Pink Parcel IM ON campaign. Additional TV appearances include Channel 4’s Genderquake and Trans Kids: It’s Time to Talk.

Learn to Play: ULTIMATE

Join Athletics in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge and learn a new sport this summer! Sign up now for the “Learn to Play” workshops which will encourage Conestoga female student to try new activities. During the Ultimate Frisbee workshop you learn about how to throw and catch a disk, the rules of Ultimate Frisbee while also boost your overall wellness and have fun. Register with a classmate, friend, or solo to meet new Conestoga students this summer. Win free Conestoga swag plus snacks and awards. No ultimate frisbee experience is needed. All Conestoga Students with a Student Recreation Centre membership are welcome to join*!

Decolonizing Wellness With Shayla Stonechild

YO-not-gonna believe what we have in store for you tonight!

Shayla Stonechild is joining us LIVE in The Venue to discuss the cultural impacts and inaccessibility of overwhelmingly white wellness spaces. This talk will touch on the healing benefits of yoga in Indigenous communities, how to make yoga accessible for all, and using it as a way of healing trauma.

As a Mètis and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Plains Cree Woman) from Muscowpetung First Nations, Shayla Oulette Stonechild has been a catalyst for Indigenous youth and women unlocking their full potential and reclaiming their voices. Shayla is a television show host and recently wrapped Season 3 of APTN’s “Red Earth Uncovered”. She was named internationally as one of the Top “20 Yoga Instructors of Color to Watch in 2020”.

Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence

How do you respond when someone discloses to you that they have experienced sexual violence? This workshop will give participants foundational knowledge of what sexual violence is, and will provide skills, tools and information to respond in an empathetic and supportive way. 

This workshop will be presented by the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC).
