AN UPDATE ON CSI’S
2023-2024 ELECTIONS


CSI has extended the 2023-2024 Board of Directors elections nomination period and is still looking for Students to fill four (4) Director positions on our Student Board of Directors.  

If you are passionate about making positive change for Conestoga Students and advocating for the improvement of student support at all levels of government, this is your chance to make an impact and get involved. Serving on the Board of Directors is a great way to learn and grow professionally, and connect with your peers while representing the student voice—plus, it looks great on a resume!  

To run in the CSI Board of Directors election, you must nominate yourself as a candidate.

Any student seeking to run in the election must:

  • Be at least 18 years old,
  • Be a fee-paying member of Conestoga Students Inc.
  • Not have a Co-op from September to April,
  • Be in a Conestoga College program that does not conclude prior to April, 2024,
  • Understand they cannot hold employment with Conestoga Students Inc. while also acting as a member of the Board of Directors,
  • Have a 70% average in the prior semester (unless it is your first semester), and
  • Have a clean College Code of Conduct, a clean CSI Code of Conduct, and be a member in good standing.

If you meet these requirements, you can complete a nomination package! Nomination packages require you to:

  1. Complete our 3 Pre-Election Training Modules and include a Certificate of Completion, which must be submitted with your nomination package
  2. Submit your most recent Student Achievement Record (if applicable)
  3. Agree to a college record check
  4. Answer a questionnaire about your campaign platform
  5. Submit your headshot

CSI also prohibits candidates from printing flyers, using social media, and co-campaigning.

  • Why should I run for the CSI Board of Directors?

    Running for the CSI Board of Directors provides you with the opportunity to represent other students and have their voices heard about the issues that matter to them. It also will allow you to network with Student Leaders from across Canada, advocate at all levels of government to improve student supports, and learn and grow professionally!

  • What will I do in my role?

    You will help set the strategic vision of the company. This is just a fancy way of saying you will influence the way CSI operates in the future from the services we provide to the priorities we focus on advocating for and more!

  • What is the time commitment?

    20 to 30 hours per month. This time will be used for preparations for board meetings, mandatory attendance during board meetings, roundtables, committee meetings, conferences, and event attendance as required.

  • Do I need any previous experience to be successful?

    No, you do not need previous experience. We encourage diverse backgrounds with diverse skill sets that share a passion for your fellow students and the college community. CSI will provide all the training you need to be an effective and efficient Board member.

  • What is a Nomination Package and when is it available?

    A Nomination Package is a document you must complete to run for a position as a CSI Director. The package asks you for your personal information and outlines the job description, election rules, and other important details.

    Completed Nomination Packages are due to CSI’s Primary Electoral Officer by Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 12 PM. Late packages will not be accepted.

  • Where can I learn more about candidates?

    When voting begins on Monday, April 3, 2023, CSI will share a web page with information about each candidate for you to learn more about them before voting. Candidate posters will also be posted on on all Conestoga campuses.

  • How do I vote for candidates?

    When voting begins on Monday, April 3, 2023, check your Conestoga College email on, for a link to vote electronically. You will be asked to choose at least one (1) candidate, up to a total of four (4) candidates.

  • Is this a paid position?

    Elected Directors receive a bi-weekly honorarium.

  • Do I receive CCR recognition for this position?

    Yes, you can receive CCR recognition.

  • When are Nomination Packages due?

    Once completed, you must submit it to the Primary Electoral Officer by Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 12 PM. Late packages will not be accepted.

  • Does CSI provide any campaign supports?

    CSI does provide you limited campaign support. CSI will publish a website including headshots of all candidates, as well as the questionnaire answers candidates provide in their nomination package. CSI will also print and distribute posters to each campus using the headshot and questionnaire answers candidates provide in their nomination package.

  • How can I campaign?

    CSI will handle all candidate campaigning aspects of the election through creation of candidate posters that will be distributed across all Conestoga campuses, and by creation of a Candidates webpage. Please note, candidates campaigning on their own is prohibited.

  • When is voting?

    Voting begins Monday, April 3, 2023 and closes on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 8 PM.
