Welcome to the 2018/19 school year Condors!
There’s a couple of things you need to know about things taking place on campus as you start your classes and get oriented for the month of September. We have plenty of events, deadlines and things happening for you that we want to outline. Feel free to mark these things down in your calendar as you continue to find your way on campus. And as always, this information and more can be found on all of our social media channels. Make sure to follow us on Facebook- Conestoga Students Inc., along with Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat @CStudentsInc. These channels along with our new CSI Mobile App and website will be your go to resource for information. You can download our brand new CSI mobile app through your App store under Conestoga Students Inc., and you can find our website at conestogastudents.com. We hope you have an awesome year, Condors, and as always, feel free to send a message to our Facebook page if you have any questions, or direct them to the CSI Board of directors.
Your first week of classes is what we call Frosh Week. We run events all week long to welcome you to school.
The Frosh t-shirt contest is always one of our most anticipated contests of the year. Every year, we come up with new t-shirt designs and colours for you to enjoy, and we run an annual contest in order for you to get your free tee. You can grab your free t-shirt from September 4th – 7th in The Venue from 11 am-2 pm after you show a CSI staff member that you’ve downloaded the CSI app. The app will come in handy for you throughout the year for knowing events taking place on your campus, and for wayfinding for your classes. It’ll also come in handy for a future contest for the concert.
For all other campuses, you can pick up your free t-shirt at the service hub.
Frosh week barbecues
We are running free barbecues at Doon, Cambridge, Waterloo and Guelph campuses!
On Wednesday, September 5th, head to The Venue and enjoy the patio party taking place in the outdoor patio area space beside the restaurant. Have fun with the inflatable games, the various vendors, the FREE BBQ and the open bar inside The Venue. It will be a fun outdoor event that you and your friends can enjoy, so make sure to come out to it! It starts at 11am and runs while supplies last.
Come and experience everything Bollywood at the Bollywood pub night on Friday, September 7th from 9 pm-1 am in The Venue. This is an all ages event, and you must be 19+ to drink at the bar (valid government ID and your ONE Card are required). Feel free to wear traditional attire, and enjoy traditional food and dance at this awesome event.
We also have several events taking place at each campus, including t-shirt contests, free frosh breakfast Friday and more. For more details on what’s happening on your campus, take a look at our events calendar.

Get involved on campus to meet likeminded people who share your interests and values.
Want to volunteer? Then become a Leadership Ambassador where you’ll get chances and opportunities to volunteer in and around the Conestoga and KW community. They get involved in things like Hygiene for the Homeless, where they set up a drive to collect useful items like toothbrushes, soap and more for the community.
Global Service Leadership Trip
Want to travel and do good in an international community? Then apply to the GSL Trips! There’s two of them this year, including Costa Rica at the end of February and Guatemala at the end of April. In Costa Rica, the team will be doing a construction and renovation project and in Guatemala they will be doing an eco-agricultural project. This is a great opportunity to travel while giving back to a community in other places in the world. There will be info sessions all throughout September, and the deadline to apply to both trips is Friday, September 28th at 12 pm.
Student/campus rep program
Are you a student that sees need for change, or has really awesome ideas for ways to improve the Conestoga student/campus experience? Then apply to be a student or campus rep before the deadline on Friday, September 21. You can apply at conestogastudents.com under the get involved tab. Members of this program meet on a monthly basis and discuss various topics effecting Conestoga students.
Leadership Conference: Discover, Lead, Evolve
Want to learn, reflect, improve and meet people in the process? Then come to the Leadership Conference taking place on Saturday, October 13th. Its theme is Discover, Lead, Evolve in recognition of learning more about yourself. Tickets are on sale now, and you’ll be entered into the early bird draw round 1 which enters you into potentially winning a VISA/MasterCard gift card until September 9th at midnight if you get your ticket before then! Then if you get your ticket before September 30th, you’ll be entered to win a $50 Chapters gift card. Watch mesmerizing speakers that have life-changing stories and tips, get a free swag bag and get a certificate with your name on it for your portfolio and resume at this fabulous conference.
The International Student Advisory Council (ISAC) is new as of last year, and it allows international students to join a club where they can speak openly about ways to improve the international student experience. Members meet monthly to discuss opening more cultural experiences for students of Conestoga, and ways this can be improved on our forever growing and changing diverse student population.
Clubs and Societies
You can also join or create a club of your choice! If you have an idea for a club, you just need to find six other members and run it by the Student Engagement Coordinator Darcee.
Learn about your CSI Extended Health and Dental Plan
CSI offers all full-time students an Extended Health and Dental Plan. You are automatically enrolled into the plan every year to help you maintain your physical and mental health while attending Conestoga College.
If you have health care coverage from an alternative source like a spouse, parent, or workplace, then you can opt out of the CSI Health Plan before Sept. 28, 2018 to get your money back.
If you’d like to be covered for anything from prescription drugs, travel insurance, optometry, chiro, physio and so much more, you can stay on the plan and use its benefits!
Are you in favour of a universal transit pass?
CSI will be hosting a GRT Referendum to determine if a Universal transit pass will be included for CSI fee paying students as part of your tuition and fee statement from Conestoga College. The vote will be taking place from Sept. 18-20, and it will be exclusively held online through a link within a direct email to all fee-paying Conestoga students.
CSI Fest is one of the biggest events we host for the year. Every year in the last week of September (Sept. 24-27) we hold a fair in the Lower Atrium where we provide students with a passport where they can input answers to questions, we ask students questions about all eight of our services, students answer these questions, then submit their passport into a prize box of their choice to potentially win a grand prize of their choice! Examples of prizes we’ve used in the past have been a $2,000 travel voucher, $200 of cash, $250 grocery gift cards and more. Check out the events calendar here to find out when CSI Fest will be taking place on your campus.
And that’s it for September! Make sure to keep up with us on conestogastudents.com to continue to learn more information, download the CSI app and follow us on our social media channels to keep up with us on a daily basis.
See you around, Condors!
