Through our continuous efforts in representing the student body at Conestoga College, we are presenting two opportunities, through this referendum, that provides our membership a chance to share their voice through a vote.

Below you will find information about a proposed capital development fee for Waterloo students (University Ave location only) and the option to add legal protection to your health plan with StudentCare. It is worth reiterating that only students at the Waterloo campus have the opportunity to vote in the capital development fee referendum.

Waterloo capital development fee referendum

Are you in favour of a new $48.00 CSI Capital Development Fee, collected per semester from Waterloo students to fund the improvement of student spaces and facilities on Waterloo campus starting in January, 2019? This would be automatically billed on your tuition and will not increase.

This affects Waterloo students only.

Legal protection referendum

Conestoga Students Inc is holding a referendum to decide if students support the implementation of student legal protection coverage for September, 2018.
This legal protection package ensures that you have the tools and financial means to defend your legal rights and can access free legal information via a helpline.

This affects all fee paying students.

Conestoga College and Conestoga Students Inc., with your participation, are working towards numerous co-curricular service enhancements to ensure that the Waterloo campus is equipped with the services and amenities necessary for an enriched student experience. Enhancements such as; a new CSI Service Hub, a gaming lounge, lounge and cafeteria space adjacent to a full serve Tim Hortons, a food bank, International and Aboriginal services, full serve IT support and accommodative/interfaith space.
To make these enhancements possible a capital development fee must be implemented, beginning in January 2019, at the value of $48/semester until the value of the capital enhancements are collected at which time the fee will be dissolved.

Cast a paper ballot during CSI Fest on Monday September 25 at your campus, or online through your college email.

How much is the proposed capital development fee?
  • $48/semester, starting in January, 2019.
What services, amenities and co-curricular spaces will be added with this capital development fee?
  • CSI Service Hub, a gaming lounge, lounge and cafeteria space adjacent to the full serve Tim Hortons, a food bank, International and Aboriginal services, full serve IT support and accommodative/interfaith space.
When will the construction at Waterloo campus be completed?
  • Academic space is scheduled to open in September, 2018.
  • Co-Curricular space is schedule to open in January, 2019.
    • The proposed capital development fee would be responsible for the follow through on these various co-curricular & service enhancements.
How long would this fee be collected for?
  • Approximately 6 years. This is calculated by projected enrollment numbers at the Waterloo campus over the coming years. However, if the targeted revenue goal is reached earlier, the fee will be dissolved.
What happens if the vote is not passed for this fee?
  • All space designated in the design plans for co-curricular services would then revert to academic space if the vote is not passed.
Which students at the Waterloo campus on University Ave would pay this fee?
  • All full-time fee paying students in a government funded program would be contributing to the capital development fee. Students attending the Schlegel campus would not be paying this fee.
