5 Reasons to go to the Leadership Conference

The Leadership Conference is held every year for students to join in on workshops, hear very captivating and motivational speeches and network with other student leaders. This fall’s conference (held on October 13th) is themed around the self. The idea is that students will discover, lead and evolve after learning more tips and tricks to best leadership practices at the conference. There are plenty of benefits of attending the Leadership Conference, and we’ve outlined five of them below. Read them to find out why the conference is beneficial for you.

1. You learn a lot from the speakers and the workshops

At the conference you will take away lots of information and best practices from the speakers and the workshops that they run. At the conference you will learn ways to better yourself as a leader in your own community. This year, the speakers include James Robilotta, Andy Thibodeau, Sarah McVanel, Tina VanSteenbergen, Nova Browning Rutherford, who all have interesting stories and helpful tactics for dealing with hardships. Take notes, observe and gain insight at the conference to how you can use these practices in your everyday life.

2. It’s a great opportunity to network and make friends

One of the best parts about the conference is that it’s great for networking and making friends with Conestoga peers. If you’re looking for a way to branch out within the Conestoga community and meet people as much as you can, the conference is a great way to do this. There are lots of break out sessions, workshops and you’re sure to meet very likeminded people that are also looking to make a difference within themselves and within their own community.

3. You get lots of free things, including a free swag bag

As a student, I’m sure you like receiving free things! Luckily at the conference you receive a free swag bag that contains anything from notebooks, pens, fidget spinners and more. There are also other opportunities to win prizes through a social media contest! Lots of opportunities to be involved and get free things, so take advantage of that while you can!

4. Food and transportation is provided on the day

Did we mention that the $20 ticket price also covers food on the day? Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided on breaks during throughout the day, so make sure to bring an appetite on October 13th and we will be sure to feed you right. Transportation is also covered to and from the Crowne Plaza from Doon campus, so if you can’t find a ride there then hop on the shuttle in the morning and after the conference!

5. You get a CCR credit and certificate out of it

One of the best parts about the conference is that you get a CCR credit and a certificate with your name on it in the end. This will be great for you in interviews and for your professional portfolio. It’s always great to stand out from the rest of the pack and show that you’ve done several things, besides academics, while completing your program. This will undeniably be something that sets you apart and helps you in your future!

The conference is an excellent opportunity for so many reasons- both personally and professionally. Have questions about it? Just forward them to Nicole Amorim at namorim@conestogac.on.ca.
